University of Auckland

Dear Richard,

I refer to your request of 18 February 2025. As your request is for a
large quantity of official information or necessitates a search through a
large quantity of information and meeting the original time limit would
unreasonably interfere with the operations of the University, and
consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a
response cannot reasonably be given within the original time limit, the
University has extended the time limit for your request by 20 working days
under section 15A(1)(a) and (b) of the OIA.

The new maximum time limit for the University’s response is 16 April 2025
we will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this extension.

Yours sincerely,

Farleigh Quinlivan

Kia Ora,

As today is 17 April, I am following up on my request dated 18 February 2025. The extended response deadline of 16 April, as outlined in your previous correspondence, has now passed.

By law, the University should have responded by this date. Given the significant public interest in this information, particularly among prospective medical school applicants, I hope that the response will be made available without further delay.

Yours sincerely,

Limited entry programmes are determined each year by Council under the
University’s Limitation of Entry Statute 1991 (see attached). Under the
University’s Limitation of Entry Statute 1991, Council determines the
maximum number of students who may be enrolled in each limited entry
programme and this is published in the relevant year’s Limitations
Schedule (see attached). Under the University’s Limitation of Entry
Statute 1991, Council may prescribe eligibility requirements and selection
criteria for limited entry programmes. This information is set out each
year in Programme Limitation documents for the relevant Faculties – see
attached the document entitled
“2025-medical-health-sciences-programme-limitations”. Note that the
selection criteria set out in 2025 Programme Limitations for the MBChB
Part II state:

“Application of Selection Criteria

The Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences on the advice of
the MBChB Admissions subcommittee will determine matters concerning the
application of the selection criteria, including but not limited to the
weighting of GPA, MMI, UCAT-ANZ (where applicable) and the Clinical

for clinical entrance”. The main document relating to the calculation of
the rank score for MBChB Part 2 admissions for 2025 is the Dean’s
Determination document and in particular the section entitled “Details for
creating final ranked lists for admissions decisions”. If you wish to
request any additional information about the rank score calculations,
please provide a more detailed description of the type of material that
you wish to request. An explanation of your purpose for seeking this
information would also assist us in identifying what information you wish
to request.

You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with the University’s response.

MBChB admissions.
[11] Any documents (including emails) produced between 01/01/2024 and

Selection Test (if required) in assessing the merit of applicants.”

The Dean’s determination on the Application of Selection Criteria for the
MBChB Part II is attached.

It is not clear what additional information (if any) you wish to request
under “any documents (including emails) produced between 01/01/2024 and
17/02/2025 (inclusive) that relate to the calculation of the rank score
for clinical entrance”.

Yours sincerely,
