Auckland Council
Kia ora Eileen,
Thank you for your request received 19 April 2024. We apologise for the
delay in sending this to you. Please find our response below provided by
ICT team.
- Does Auckland Council use any Huawei, Oppo, Xioami, Honor, ZTE and
OnePlus equipment? If so, please provide a break down; from phones; ICT;
hardware meeting rooms, etc
Council does not purchase mobile phones from these suppliers, however this
is not a fixed position. Suppliers are assessed on a risk and commercial
basis and can change over time.
We currently have 28 phones from OPPO, Huawei, OnePlus, ZTE, Xiaomi as
well as 15 Huawei wireless modems and 1 ZTE Wireless Modems being used as
“bring your own devices”. The phones and wireless modems are using Council
SIM cards.
We currently have 16 Huawei 4G routers in use. They comprise a small
percentage of Councils network equipment and are used for wireless
connections to the Spark Network at some small sites.
- Does Auckland Council use any equipment for storing information, data,
wifi, or any other data connections
Yes, the phones will store and transfer data and the network equipment
will be used for data transfer.
- Does council use any Huawei, Oppo, Xioami, Honor, ZTE and OnePlus phones
We do not purchase these phones currently but some of our users are using
these phones as “bring your own devices”. Controls exist to limit any
connection between Council systems and unmanaged devices. This includes
corporate systems (e.g. document storage) and public facing systems (the
council website)
You have the right to seek an investigation and review of this response by
the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a complaint is available at

If you have any questions please contact me at
[2][email address] or contact me on 09 301 0101,
quoting LGOIMA No. 8140013620.
