Online driver licensing renewal
Cody C made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency
The request was successful.
From: Cody C
Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
Why are drivers licenses unable to be renewed online? Passports, which are a vastly more powerful document, have been able to both applied for and renewed online for quite some time now.
Yours faithfully,
Cody C

Kia ora Cody,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding
renewing driver licences online. Our reference is 37639202.
Currently to renew your licence as part of the process you need to pass an
eyesight test and have your image taken, hence the requirement to do this
in person at a drivers licencing agent.
However, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency do appreciate the efficiency and
effectiveness digital capability offers and this is a focus area.
We are continually looking at ways to improve our processes and appreciate
your feedback. Your comments have been logged for the appropriate
department for review.

Dear Assigned Task DL,
Thank you, that makes sense.
Would NZTA accept a recent letter from a recognised optometrist attesting to the vision of the applicant?
Yours sincerely,
Cody C
