Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,

I'm writing to determine the conditions for a restricted license obtained after an overseas license conversation.

It says that a restricted license obtained after an overseas license conversion restricts a licence holder from always having a supervisor, but a restricted license obtained through a learner license holder has the right to drive under some conditions.

The issue is that when an overseas worker passes the test for conversion of his license, he can no longer use an overseas license, and the restricted license doesn't allow him to drive along to go to work. This happens because they are new to New Zealand, and it's hard to find a second person as a supervisor, and he has to wait at least a couple of weeks to book a practical test due to the practical test queue.

This could cause loss of jobs, inability to pick up and drop off their families and drive illegally.

This is not a condition I face right now, but I'm writing this as several friends asked me.

Could you please suggest a solution for the duration between overseas licence conversion and the practical test?

Unfortunately, there is no solution to this issue other than to book in
and pass a Practical Driving Test as soon as possible.

 

We are currently experiencing high volumes of test bookings. If there are
no tests available to book, it means that there are no Driver Testing
Officers available to accommodate further test slots. 

 

Practical test admins will load test dates in the future, this varies from
a few days into the future or up to 6 weeks. If you are looking for a
certain date, we would suggest checking the website booking schedule as
frequently as possible until new dates are loaded.
