Auckland Council

Dear Christine,

Thank you for your request for information about Herbicides in public
areas.

Further to our email to you on 1 February acknowledging your request, we
have logged and discussed this matter with the council’s Parks and
Community Facilities department, I have been advised that Herbicide
application is conducted across a wide variety of areas managed by
Auckland Council’s Parks and Community Facilities department ranging from
use in Regional Parks, the Botanic Gardens, special ecological areas,
cemeteries and our local parks and reserves.

For the use of herbicides in local parks and reserves and streetscapes for
example this is provided by multiple full facility contractors across the
Auckland Region.

To proceed with your request, can you please specify what particular asset
or type of location and the geographical area you are interested in so we
can provide the relevant documentation from that respective contractor?

Health and Safety and Risk Management plans are contained across a number
of large documents. Please can you specify any particular area of interest
in relation to these plans e.g. SOPS, herbicide risk assessments and any
particular chemical.

Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to
be a new request for the purpose of calculating the maximum statutory
timeframe for response—see section 13(7) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA).

Please let me know your clarification by the end of Thursday 22 February
2024 so we can proceed with your request. If you have any other questions,
please do not hesitate to contact me regarding this request.

Thank you for your time.

Dear Jenny Hua,
Thank you for your response. The particular herbicides are glyphosate and metsulfuron. I am interested in its application on roads and areas where public have access such as Regional Parks. Do you not have a standard or generic procedure for contractors using these herbicides where public have regular access? In that case, lets just focus on road verges and regional parks as examples. Please let me know if you require any further clarification

Yours sincerely,

Christine Woods
