Impact on Wellington economy of signficant cuts to the public service
Harris Leigh made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Harris Leigh
Dear Wellington City Council,
Under the LGOIMA I seek copies of any reports, briefings, notes, speaking notes, aides memoire or similar regardless of description prepared since 1 June 2023 outlining the like impact on the Wellington economy of significant job cuts to the core public service.
As you will be aware the Act Party has pledged to sack more than 10,000 public servants, many of whom will live and/or work in Wellington city.
https://www.thepost.co.nz/a/politics/350...
This represents nearly 0.5% of the adult population of the city.
National Party's Chris Bishop has said he hopes that there will be job losses in the public service and talks of taking an axe to jobs: https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politic...
These policies, if implemented, would have a significant impact on Wellington City, including the Council, hospitality and retail.
With this request I am seeking information on the modelling the Council will have done on this and any plans the Council has to mitigate these risks as part of its risk management planning.
I also request any public statements from the Mayor or Council officers on the impact of significant cuts to the public service on Wellington City.
Nga mihi,
Harris Leigh
