Traffic incident

James made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: James

Dear New Zealand Police,

Over 5 months ago a govt Minister, Marama Davidson was apparently clipped by a motorcycle in Auckland’s CBD.
The incident made National headlines and it is therefore in the public interest that an update be provided.

Under the OIA please provide the following:
Is the investigation still ongoing?
Given the incident involved a govt Minister, was this case given any priority, if not why not?
How many Police officers are working on the investigation? Or worked on the investigation if it has been completed?
When is the investigation due to be completed, if it hasn’t been already?
Has footage from council cameras and the surrounding area been viewed?
Has Marama Davidson been interviewed, if so when?
Was Marama Davidson taking a “selfie” at the time of the incident?
When did Marama Davidson lodge her complaint?

Yours faithfully,

James

Dear James,

Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request, received
on 28 August 2023. You requested:

“Over 5 months ago a govt Minister, Marama Davidson was apparently clipped
by a motorcycle in Auckland’s CBD.

The incident made National headlines and it is therefore in the public
interest that an update be provided.

Under the OIA please provide the following:

1.            Is the investigation still ongoing?

2.            Given the incident involved a govt Minister, was this case
given any priority, if not why not?

3.            How many Police officers are working on the investigation?
Or worked on the investigation if it has been completed?

4.            When is the investigation due to be completed, if it hasn’t
been already?

5.            Has footage from council cameras and the surrounding area
been viewed?

6.            Has Marama Davidson been interviewed, if so when?

7.            Was Marama Davidson taking a “selfie” at the time of the
incident?

8.            When did Marama Davidson lodge her complaint??”

The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 4 October 2023.

This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are
not satisfied with the response to your request. Information about how to
make a complaint is available at: [1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

Kind regards
