RDC Social Housing costs

Barry Murphy made this Official Information request to Ruapehu District Council

The request was successful.

From: Barry Murphy

Dear Ruapehu District Council,

I note that there are a number of social houses provided by council listed at https://www.ruapehudc.govt.nz/our-facili...

I ask:
1./ What is the annual revenue from these properties for the last 2 years?
2./ What are the fixed expenses (rates, water, power)?
3./ What, if any, repairs and maintenance costs?
4./ What, if any, damage costs?
5./ Any additional costs? (i.e. furniture, heating, etc)?
6./ Is the housing cost neutral to rate payers, if not, what is the profit or loss?

Yours faithfully,

Barry Murphy

Dear Info,

Thanks for the report, it was very helpful.

1./ Can you confirm, from the results provided that a profit in 2023 was $23,420 , however does not include the "Additional costs" of $138,297, meaning this was not cost neutral, but rather a loss for the FY?

2./ Can you please confirm the costs also included every item associated to housing, i.e. insurance, landscaping or lawn maintenance, etc?

3./ Can you confirm the expenses, do not include any staffing hours to manage the service.

4./ How many work hours would be allocated to housing? i.e. admin, debt collection, etc.

5./ Are there any debts on revenue over 30days in arrears, and if so how much.

6./ What, if any were the amounts written off as bad debt / unpaid rent?

7./ What is being done to ensure things remain cost neutral, with the increase of services

Yours sincerely,

Barry Murphy
