Long term workers accomodation

Barry Murphy made this Official Information request to Ruapehu District Council

Ruapehu District Council did not have the information requested.

From: Barry Murphy

Dear Ruapehu District Council,

I request all information regarding plans for the long term workers accomodation, including but not limited to, discussion records between councillors for Teitei drive. Considering resource consent has been submitted for this project and the marketing information being provided by Kainga Ora around the 15 new homes to be built for workers accomodation, there should be substantial information available.

1./ Documents pertaining to the corporations that that would possibly manage said workers accomodation if it was a third party.
2./ The companies or corporates that would likely use the workers accomodation
3./ The plans on who would own the properties, Kainga Ora? RDC? Private entities?
4./ The estimated cost to build these properties
5./ Who would fund the build costs of the houses once the land LOTs were available.
6./ Would the properties (land or house) be discounted at all, and if so, by how much & why
7./ Who chooses who can rent or buy the properties?
8./ What policies have been planned or considered and what are the rules around it
9./ If the properties are not sold, who retains the title to the land and. who owns the house.
10./ If the properties are not sold, could these be used by Kainga Ora for public housing, or would this become a debt/risk to RDC?
11./ Clive (CEO) of RDC mentioned to me over the phone that WPI (and other entities) was interested in purchasing some of these properties for their workers, is any discount being provided if this was to happen; and if so, why?

Yours faithfully,

Barry Murphy

Dear Info,

Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately I fail to believe there is no documentation or notes or considerations as to how the workers accomodation would work. I have watched council meetings over zoom and have seen this mentioned a few times with no details. I also refer to the Kainga Ora & RDC (partnership) marketing material that advertises 15 workers accomodation houses are planned.

The public is being told that 44 LOTS are being created with the purpose of 15 state homes, 15 worker homes and 14 affordable first home buyers.

To say there is no policies, documents, notes or discussions that have been had over the workers accomodation would lead me to believe this could become 30 state homes and 14 affordable homes; or even up to 44 social houses due to the fact that houses can be purchased cheaper on TradeMe for a first home, than can be built.

This has been a great concern that we have been highlighting. Because consultation with the public has not been had, the right questions have not been posed; thus the mismanagement of this project.

So again I ask, please provide any information with regards to the workers accomodation that has been proposed for Teitei drive.

Yours sincerely,

Barry Murphy
