Good afternoon Patrick.
I'd like to acknowledge receipt of your request - just be aware we are considering a possible transfer to Ashburton District Council - as they are roading authority responsible.
Kind regards
Dave

Dear Dave Allard,
Am I to believe that kiwirail has absolutely no interest in taking any sort of action to address the issue of bridge strikes at this particular location?
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Dunford

Good morning Patrick.
We are involved in the discussion of course (as FYI we actually met with Council two weeks ago to discuss the matter).
But we're not the authority in charge of the roading - thus any response is best to come from ADC.
Cheers
Dave

Dear Dave Allard,
Perhaps I can rephrase the question? What suggestions or ideas have been considered by Kiwirail as options to address the bridge strike issue?
Yours sincerely,
Patrick Dunford

KiwiRail
Hi Patrick - that should all be covered off in the official response coming from ADC.
Cheers

What measures have currently or previously been proposed to address bridge
strike issues at Main South Line Bridge 43, the so-called "Tinwald
Viaduct"?
The current signage prior to and at the viaduct has been in place for
several years (at least since 2008). The height displayed was changed from
2.55m to 2.39m in approximately 2010.
Reviewing the signage it is proposed to upgrade the signs at the viaduct
with larger full width signs as below.
Also, in discussion with Waka Kotahi, propose to install information signs
in advance of the viaduct in the format as follows (with the 2.39m height
restriction).
These are planned to be in addition and located prior to the current
warning signs. Also plan to have a sign located on Melcombe St 800m in
advance of the viaduct.
KiwiRail is reviewing the proposed signs at the viaduct because they are
attached to the rail bridge. We are awaiting feedback from KiwiRail before
proceeding.
Regards
Mark
