Patrick Dunford made this Official Information request to KiwiRail
The request was partially successful.
From: Patrick Dunford
Dear KiwiRail,
What specific solutions are proposed for each of the level crossings on the Wairarapa Line which are to receive safety improvements under the NZ Upgrade or other related current programmes and which crossings are proposed for closure?
Yours faithfully,
Patrick Dunford

KiwiRail
Good afternoon Patrick
Please see below the response form our Wairarapa Upgrades Team.
KiwiRail has funding from the New Zealand Upgrade Programme (NZUP) to improve the 30 public road level crossings between the Remutaka Tunnel and Masterton. Improvements include half arm barriers, warning lights and bells, automatic pedestrian gates on footpaths at urban level crossings, as well as some closures.
These improvements will help improve safety for vehicles and pedestrians, and allow for shorter commuter journeys.
We are currently reviewing the viability of some level crossings.
The list of closures and upgrades is not yet confirmed.
We are currently engaging with Wairarapa Councils to determine next steps.
We will keep residents and commuters informed.
Cheers
Dave
