Kia ora Chris

Under the Local Government Information and Meetings Act 1987 you have requested
the following information:

- Any and all memos formal & informal, workshops, email correspondence between
personnel involved in the advertising campaign targeted at Auckland Council
workers

- Please provide all costs paid to NZ Herald or any other media entity
associated with this campaign

- Please provide costs paid to any consultants / PR companies

- Please provide any and all communications between mayor and other personnel
involved

- To include text messages / WhatsApp

- Ultimate reason for this politicking, who was involved and cost to the
ratepayer

Please find attached the correspondence relating to the talent attraction
advertisement placed in the New Zealand Herald, including communication with the
mayor’s office, text messages and Whatsapp.  Text messages and Teams messages
included in this correspondence are between Audrey Malone and the stipulated
recipient.

Costs:

MBM  - $5680 + GST

Homegrown - $420 +GST (copy of advertisement)

The ultimate reason for this advertisement was to alert people in Auckland that
Te Whanganui-a-Tara needs talented people to grow the city.  The concept was
conceived by WellingtonNZ, however both the mayor’s office, for permission to
use the mayor’s name, and the Wellington City Council,  our major shareholder,
were alerted to the advertisement.

The total cost was $6100 plus GST.

Ngā mihi,

Audrey Malone

Dear Audrey Malone,

Please confirm total costs

$5,680
$420
2 x Herald Advertisements - $12,053 x 2

Total Cost - $30,206

And it was quite an interesting read to review some of the correspondence. And let me enlighten you on a few things. People don't hate Wellington - it was a great place to live only 10 years ago when I first got here. What people hate is

$832m in debt
Highest commercial rates in NZ over a relatively small geographic area so where does all the money go?
Highest cost to park in the city
Removal of parks for cycleways destroying businesses and making access to hospitals harder
Yearly residential rates rises
"Consultation" that means nothing because council has a desired outcome
The last couple of years whilst locals have been struggling and businesses shut the council and government continue to waste money - this being a prime example

Honestly the list goes on - but maybe in future if you take this as some advice. If you were a business owner - would you spend $30,000 to try and attract people from Auckland City Council to work for your business that were being laid off? Would you spend your "Personal" money on this?

Yours sincerely,

Chris McCashin

Kia ora Chris,

The total costs were:

MBM - $5680 + GST

Homegrown - $420 +GST (copy of advertisement)

Which adds to a total of $6,100+GST for the advertisement as stated in the
response.

The other figures you would have read in the correspondence were quotes given to
WellingtonNZ for advertisement placements but were not taken.

Kind regards,

Audrey.
