This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Josh to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Josh

Dear University of Auckland,

I am requesting information under the OIA in relation to the Senior Scholar Award.

I request the following:

(a): How many senior scholar awards in total were allocated to the business school in the graduating year 2021 (i.e. those that were awarded it in 2021). For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies that occurred in the respective years.

(b): The method used to calculate the GPA of graduating business school students in determining whether they were eligible for this award for the year 2021.

(c): Whether the GPA calculation method listed in (b) will change for the graduating year 2022.

(d): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the lowest GPA to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating year 2021 (i.e. those awarded it in 2021). For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies.

(e): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the highest GPA to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating year 2021 (i.e. those awarded it in 2021). For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies.

(f) Are Senior Scholar Awards made out by department in the Faculty of Business & Economics, and if so, does that mean each department is allocated a certain amount to award?

(g) If the awards are made out by department, based of the GPA calculation method in (b), the lowest GPA to be offered the award in graduating years 2020 and 2021 for each department.

Yours faithfully,

Josh

Dear Josh,

I refer to your request of 30 March 2022. The University’s response
follows:

“(a): How many senior scholar awards in total were allocated to the
business school in the graduating year 2021 (i.e. those that were awarded
it in May 2021 and Sept 2021.) “

In 2021 there were 24 senior scholar awards awarded to Business School
graduates who completed their studies in the 2020 academic year.

“(b) The method used to calculate the GPA of graduating business school
students in determining whether they were eligible for this award for the
year 2021.”

Senior Scholar Awards are granted to students who are eligible to graduate
with an undergraduate degree or diploma and who have achieved the top
grade point averages (GPAs) assessed over their last 90 or more points
credited to that degree, commencing with the higher level points most
recently taken in their degree. To be eligible for this Award, recipients
must have achieved a minimum GPA of 6.50 across the courses used for this
assessment. Awards are allocated annually. A minimum of 90 points are used
to calculate these awards in the Business School.

“(c) Whether the GPA calculation method listed in (b) will change for the
graduating year 2022.”

No change.

“(d) What was the lowest GPA to be offered the business school senior
scholar award in the graduating year 2021 (i.e. those awarded in 2021).
For each graduation period ie May and Sept.”

GPA of at least 8.8333

“(e) What was the highest GPA to be offered the business school senior
scholar award in the graduating year 2021 For each graduation period ie
May and Sept.”

GPA of 9

“(f) Are awards allocated by department? If so, What is the method of
allocation by department?”

No, they are allocated at the Business School level based on an overall
ranking of all graduating (eligible) students.

“(g) If the awards are made out by department, based on GOA what is the
lowest GPA to be offered the award in graduating years 2020 and 2021 for
each department?”

Not applicable

Yours sincerely,

Landon Watt
