Dear University of Auckland,

I am requesting information regarding the business school Senior Scholar Award for eligible graduating students.

Please provide the following information:

(a): How many senior scholar awards in total were allocated to the business school in the graduating year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies that occurred in the respective years.

(b): The method used to calculate the GPA of graduating business school students in determining whether they were eligible for this award for the year 2020 and 2019.

(c): Whether the GPA calculation method listed in (b) will change for the graduating year 2021 and 2022.

(d): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the lowest GPA to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies.

(e): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the highest GPA to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies.

Dear Andrew,

 

I refer to your request for official information of 10 September 2021. The
University’s response follows.

 

“(a): How many senior scholar awards in total were allocated to the
business school in the graduating year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the
doubt, this includes Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies that occurred
in the respective years.”

 

2019: 26

2020: 34

“(b): The method used to calculate the GPA of graduating business school
students in determining whether they were eligible for this award for the
year 2020 and 2019.”

The GPA is assessed over the last 90 points credited to that degree,
commencing with the higher level points most recently taken in the degree.

“(c): Whether the GPA calculation method listed in (b) will change for the
graduating year 2021 and 2022.”

 

2021 regulations indicate the same GPA assessment method will be used. The
University’s Scholarships Office has confirmed that no changes to the
selection criteria or the GPA calculation method are proposed for 2022.

“(d): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the lowest GPA
to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating
year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and
Spring graduation ceremonies.”

 

These figures have been provided as ranges under section 9(2)(a) of the
Official Information Act to protect the privacy of the recipient whose GPA
score has been requested:

 

o In 2019 the lowest GPA awarded was 8.26-8.50.
o In 2020 the lowest GPA awarded was 8.76-9.00.

“(e): Based of the GPA calculation method in (b), what was the highest GPA
to be offered the business school senior scholar award in the graduating
year 2020 and 2019. For avoidance of the doubt, this includes Winter and
Spring graduation ceremonies.”

 

These figures have been provided as ranges under section 9(2)(a) of the
Official Information Act to protect the privacy of the recipient whose GPA
score has been requested:

 

o In 2019 the lowest GPA awarded was 8.76-9.00
o In 2020 the lowest GPA awarded was 8.76-9.00.
