I refer to your request of 4 January 2022. The University’s response
follows.

 

2022 University of Auckland Summer Research Scholarships

 

 1. The number of successful applicants – 414 (there were 1624
applications in total of which 414 were offered a summer Research
Scholarship.  A total of 436 offers were made (20 applicants were
offered 2 projects, 1 was offered 3 projects).
 2. The average GPA of the successful applicants – 7.91 (of the 414
successful applicants, the average GPA was 7.91)
 3. The lowest GPA of a successful applicant – 5.53 (The GPA requirement
for non-Mâori or Pacific is 6 and the lowest awarded GPA in that
cohort was 6.00.  For Mâori and Pacific awardees, the GPA requirement
is 5.5 and the lowest awarded GPA in that cohort was 5.53, thus the
lowest awarded GPA was 5.53)
 4. The highest GPA of an unsuccessful applicant – 9.00 (Note: a number of
projects were not chosen by the faculties, thus a number of eligible
and high-GPA applicants were classified as not successful.  The GPA of
9 is for one or more eligible but unsuccessful applicants where their
non-award was not related to the strength of their application but
rather that the specific project they chose was not selected for
support by the faculty – noting there were 1624 applications and 414
awarded).
