Covid 19 Hospitalisation treatment statistics

Paul Jones made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was successful.

From: Paul Jones

Dear Ministry of Health,

This request is made under the Official Information Act.

At the following URL it lists the total number of Covid 19 cases and Hospitalisations.

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/dise...

At the time of this writing there have been a total of 321 people hospitalised and 41 in ICU.
For my reference this is out of a total of 5153 cases since first NZ case.

1) As ICU is a department of hospitals, of the 41 people in ICU is that total apart of the 321 people hospitalised or is that a combined total of 362 (41+321) people in hospital?

2) For all people who entered hospital (321 or 362) please provide a breakdown for the number of those cases who received the following Covid-19 treatments.

i) Oxygen
ii) Remdesivir
iii) Tocilizumab

Yours faithfully,

Paul Jones

Kia ora Paul,

Thank you for your request for official information received on 20 October
2021 for information relating to Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Please find
a transfer of each part of your request below. You stated:

“…At the time of this writing there have been a total of
321 people hospitalised and 41 in
ICU.  For my reference this is out of a total of 5153 cases since first NZ
case.

You requested:

As ICU is a department of hospitals, of the 41 people in ICU is that total
apart of the 321 people hospitalised or is that a combined total of 362
(41+321) people in hospital?

This part of your request asks for information which is more closely
connected with the functions of the District Health Boards (DHBs). For
this reason, the Ministry of Health consulted with the DHBs with the
intention to transfer your request under section 14(b)(ii) of the Act.

2) For all people who entered hospital (321 or 362) please provide a
breakdown for the number of those cases who received the following
Covid-19 treatments.

i) Oxygen

ii) Remdesivir

iii) Tocilizumab”

MidCentral District Health Board (MCDHB) and Waikato District Health Board
(WDHB) have accepted transfer of this part of your request, and the
Northern Regional Health Coordination Centre (NRHCC) on behalf the
Auckland Metro DHBs have accepted partial transfer of question 2. You can
expect a response from MCDHB, WDHB and NRHCC in due course.

Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to ask the Ombudsman
to review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at: [1][email address] or by calling 0800
802 602.

If you have any queries related to this request, please do not hesitate to
get in touch.

Ngâ mihi,

Re: Official Information Request - Covid 19 Hospitalisation treatment
statistics

I am writing to acknowledge your original official information request
dated 20 October 2021 to The Ministry of Health and the transfer from the
Ministry of Health to NRHCC on 4 November 2021.

We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible and, in
any event, no later than 2 December 2021. We will contact you if an
extension is required.

“Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic response, Auckland DHB continues to
experience significantly higher volumes of requests for information. Many
key Auckland DHB and Auckland Regional Public Health Service staff are
currently committed to tasks associated with the current COVID-19
outbreak. This will invariably impact on our ability to respond to certain
OIA requests within normal timeframes.

If you have any questions about management of OIA during the COVID
pandemic you may find it helpful to read the following from the Office of
the
Ombudsman [1]https://smex12-5-en-ctp.trendmicro.com:4...

Please note that, like other DHBs across New Zealand, Auckland DHB has
adopted a model of proactive disclosure which sees OIA responses
publically available on our website approximately one month after they
have been released.  If you believe that there are any special reasons why
proactive disclosure should not apply to our response to you, we will be
happy to consider this.

Ngā mihi
