Dear Paul
Re:
Official Information Request for Covid Hospitalisation and treatment Data
I refer to your official information request dated 20 October 2021 transferred in part (question 2 only)
from the Ministry of Health to the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre on 3 November 2021
for the following information:
At the time of this writing there have been a total of 321 people hospitalised and 41 in ICU. For my
reference this is out of a total of 5153 cases since first NZ case.
2. For al people who entered hospital (321 or 362) please provide a breakdown for the
number of those cases who received the fol owing Covid-19 treatments.
I. Oxygen
II. Remdesivir
III. Tocilizumab
I am responding on behalf of the Northern Region Health Coordination Centre (NRHCC), the COVID-
19 response and vaccination team set up by the Northland, Waitematā, Auckland, and Counties
Manukau DHBs.
As the data referenced in your original request is held by the Ministry of Health, DHBs are unable to
comment in direct relation to the specific numbers referenced as this appears to be national data.
We have however complied data which aligns with the timing of your request from the start of the
current outbreak 17th August 2021.
Please find below the information you have requested in question 2 above. Note that your date range
requested includes dates after the OIA request was submitted, consequently the DHBs have provided
responses which reflect slightly differing date ranges as stated in the tables below.

Please note regarding the oxygen data from ADHB asterixed thus*, they do not hold the information
relating to patients that received oxygen whilst in hospital in an accessible format. Assembling it
would require a manual review of the patient notes relating to the hospital events. Given that DHB
clinicians, managers and staff continue to concentrate on measures to manage the current
COVID-19 outbreak in the region we have decided to decline this aspect of your request under
Official Information Act s18(f) – substantial collation and research.
You are entitled to seek a review of the response by the Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the
Official Information Act. Information about how to make a complaint is
available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Please note that this response, or an edited version of this response, may be published on the
Auckland DHB website.
Yours sincerely,
Ailsa Claire, OBE
Chief Executive
