NZ Police organisation type
Malcolm France made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was partially successful.
From: Malcolm France
Dear New Zealand Police,
I request to be provided with the evidence and facts of the following questions under section 12 of the Official Information Act 1982 ,and The Declaration on Open and Transparent Government as approved by Cabinet on 8 August 2011.
Given that the police are not a NZ Government Department or Crown Entity and are not a public service as stated in under various Acts and websites and have a separate monitoring body (IPCA) from every other government agent who have the ombudsmen, it seems NZ Police must be a private organisation.
1.. Who are Police accountable to apart from the IPCA
2.. Who are Police responsible to in terms of who they work/get directed/contracted by if different form 5 above.
3.. Is the Police a private organisation ?
4. What type of entity is the New Zealand Police . For example is it a company, association, society, ?
5. Where is the NZ Police organisation registered. Especially including but not limited to in which register, country and jurisdiction.
6. Provide documents of its registration.
I look forward to your direct reply , as the organisation the questions are asked about , in the timeframes and manner required under the NZ Official Information Act
Yours faithfully,
legal person and said citizen

Dear New Zealand Police,
Supplementary question to the first 6
7) What is the true reason you chose not to answer any OIA's and forward them to Ministerial Services of the NZ Government .
Yours faithfully,
Malcolm France

And as to your fallacy that NZ Police are a private organisation, the very fact that it is subject to the Official Information Act might be the *tiniest* clue that it is part of government.
Another little hint is the Policing Act 2018 where in section 7 it states the Police are an instrument of the Crown.

The Police haven't forwarded your request to the "Ministerial Services of the NZ Government".
Most government departments will have a section that deals with OIA requests; correspondence with their Minister, etc. That section *within* the government department is often called "Ministerial Services".
