Section 15 of the Independent Police Conduct Authority Act 1998

Amanda Murtagh made this Official Information request to Independent Police Conduct Authority

The request was successful.

From: Amanda Murtagh

Dear Independent Police Conduct Authority,

I acknowledge that the IPCA is not subject to OIA. However, please can you answer my question.

Where the IPCA are notified within 5 working days by the Commissioner of Police regarding a complaint of corruption within the Police where the Commissioner acknowledged its receipt, what is the process of the IPCA in relation to that complaint e.g.: Is the notification simply filed away and never followed up on and used for statistical purposes only or is a file opened that the IPCA follows up on, until it satisfies itself that there has been no Police misconduct or neglect of duty, police practices, policies and or procedures?

Yours faithfully,

Amanda Murtagh

Kia ora

When we receive a new complaint from Police, we open a new file, review the information we have available and if necessary, we request further information from the complainant and/or Police. Once we have all the information we need, we make a decision about what action (if any) to take and write to both the complainant and the Police with our decision.

I hope this answers your question.
