How many of the 14 deaths reported to CARM had the cause of death diagnosed by a coroner?

Athina Andonatou made this Official Information request to Ministry of Health

The request was partially successful.

From: Athina Andonatou

Dear Ministry of Health,
The Medsafe report "Adverse events following immunisation with COVID-19 vaccines: Safety Report #18 – 3 July 2021" stated that of the 18 reported deaths, "14 are unlikely related to the COVID-19 vaccine".

As a New Zealand citizen, I'd like to know
1) How many of those 14 deaths were referred to the coroner to determine cause of death?

Yours faithfully,

Athina Andonatou

They don't need to. A doctor would have determined the cause of death and signed a death certificate. A death is only referred to the Coroner if it is sudden or unexplained.

What is the underreporting rate being used to compare against 'background rates' for all AE up to and including death

There must be an underreporting rate used to extrapolate against 'background rates'. The underreporting rate must be published.

What and who is involved in the review and process of serious AE including death.
Protocol, methodology , definitions, work flow, decision flow all needs to be fully and transparently published in public view to evaluation.

Anything less will be viewed quite rightly as a covering up exercise. Which is what is going on according to the weekly report summarys.

'Up to and including 10 July 2021, a total of 19 deaths were reported to CARM after the administration of the Comirnaty vaccine. Following medical assessments by CARM and Medsafe it has been determined that:

14 of these deaths are unlikely related to the COVID-19 vaccine [using which protocol and methodology]

2 deaths could not be assessed due to insufficient information [what is being done to remediate this explanation]

3 cases are still under investigation.

'To date, the observed number of deaths reported after vaccination is actually less than the expected number of deaths.'

[Without published protocols the above statement is propaganda]

Thank you for your request for official information.

A total of 20 fatal reports were received by Medsafe. In six of these reports, a reference was made to the Coroner, that either the death was referred to the Coroner or the Coroner was consulted.

I trust this information fulfils your request. Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review any decisions made under this request.
