Dear Mr Warner
I refer to your Official Information Act request of 25 march 2014 for
information about Auckland CBD offence statistics by age.
Pursuant to section 15A of the Official Information Act 1982, I advise you
of the requirement to extend the time limit to respond to your requests.
The period of the extension is until 19 May 2014.
The reason for the extension is that the time required to research and
collate the requested information and for the consultations necessary to
make a decision on the request are such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision to extend
the time limit for deciding upon your request.
Yours sincerely
Raewyn Thomson

Dear Ms Thomson,
thank you for the update.
Could I please ask that this OIA be processed as soon as possible. I filed well ahead of time with a deadline of 13 May in mind. Without having the information it will hinder the completion of wider document.
If possible could it be provided by the end of the week prior to that date, the 9 May?
Yours sincerely,
Rob

New Zealand Police
Dear Mr Warner
I refer to your request received on 25 March 2014 under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) relating to information on disorder and public
violence statistics for Auckland CBD for the period from January 1996 to
February 2014.
Attached are the following tables for the monthly breakdown of recorded
apprehensions for the years ending 31 December 1996 to 2013 for public
place assault and disorder offences within Auckland Central Station:
· Recorded apprehensions by specified age band
· Mean age of offender by year and month
· Recorded apprehensions by specified hour band and age band
· Mean age by year and month
· Mean age of offender by year, month and specified hour band
Official Statistics are published three months after the end of each
fiscal (30 June) or calendar (31 December) year. Therefore, your request
for statistics for the year 2014 is refused under section 18(g) of the OIA
as the information is not held.
Please note that the apprehension data provided are based on the time
offences occurred. Often, this time is not known precisely, so police
record both the earliest and the latest times an offence could have
occurred. The midpoint of these two times is used where the precise time
of the offence is unknown.
I trust this information meets your needs. As you may already be aware,
you have the right under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek a review of my
handling of your request by the Office of the Ombudsmen.
Regards,
Gavin Knight

Dear New Zealand Police,
thank you for compiling the information supplied so far.
Insofar as the "by age-band" request went you supplied only 2-14, 15-17,18-20,21-23 and "24 and above" on the sheet called "Age Group".
My request asked for: "age band (in particular 12-14, 15-17,18-20,21-23 etc. bands)" > please note: "etc."
Can you please supply, for that table alone, further age bands upwards instead of merely "24 and over" as supplied.
In the least I would like 24-26, 27-29 and 30-32. '33 and over' I am happy to receive as a single grouping.
Since this specific detail was already contained in the first instance I would appreciate if you could supply this information on the time-line of the initial request, or as soon as is practicable.
Yours faithfully,
Rob

Hi Rob,
The breakdown of the specific offences comprising the disorder and assault
offences are available on the Statistics New Zealand website
([1]www.stats.govt.nz). You can drill down on the "Assault" and
"Disorderly Conduct" offence categories to see the offences under it.
I trust this helps.
