Public disorder and assault statistics for Auckland CBD

Rob Warner made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: Rob Warner

Dear New Zealand Police,

I am seeking the public place disorder and assault statistics for Auckland CBD (Auckland Central Station). I made a previous OIA request for a different date-range which can be found here: https://fyi.org.nz/request/912-public-di...

I seek the same information for an updated date range which includes data up until the most recent available month in 2014. According to previous correspondence from you this should be up until the end of June 2014.

My OIA requests are as such:

1/. I request the monthly statistics for public place violence and disorder offences.

I should also like these monthly statistics to be divided into:
(a) number of relevant offences committed between 1800 (6pm) and 2100 (9pm), and
(b) number of relevant offences committed between 2100 (9pm) and 0000 (12am), and
(c) number of relevant offences committed between 0000 (12am) and 0300 (3am), and
(d) number of relevant offences committed between 0300 (am) and 0600 (6am)

If you could please supply these statistics for the period of:
(a) 2001 to 2014 (up to the most recent month for which data is available - probably June 2014)

2/. I would also like to request tables showing the monthly breakdown of recorded apprehensions for the years ending 31 December 2001 to 2014 (or up until the latest available data for 2014) for public place assault and disorder offences within Auckland Central Station:
- Recorded apprehensions by specified age band
- Mean age of offender by year and month
- Recorded apprehensions by specified hour band and age band
- Mean age by year and month
- Mean age of offender by year, month and specified hour band

A previous version of this OIA can be found here: https://fyi.org.nz/request/1568-auckland...

Please supply the information in excel spreadsheets , the same as for the previous iteration of these requests.

Regards,

Rob

Dear New Zealand Police,

I would like to request this information be made available within the originally stated timeframe, and not delayed as is often the case with OIAs of this nature, as it is required for the purposes of a policy presentation in mid March.

If it is easier for the collator I am happy to receive the first part of the request (1/.) separately to the second part (2/.)

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your email. I am currently working on your request and would
like to clarify one point.

In the the first part of your request we provided you the number of
offences for  "Public Place Disorder" while on the second part of your
request we provided you recorded apprehensions for  "Disorderly Conduct"
offences.  Would you like us to provide you the same data or would you
like us to align the two data? The difference is that "Disorderly Conduct"
inlcudes all scene descriptions while "Public Place Disorder" filters for
"Disorderly Conduct" offences occuring only in plublic places.

Please advise.

Attachment 20150303 Rob Warner Public Place Assault and Public Place Disorder Offences Auckland CBD Jan 2001 Jun 2014.xls
382K Download View as HTML

Dear Mr Warner

I refer to your email received on 11 February 2015 under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) requesting updates to previously provided
statistics on assault and disorder offences for Auckland CBD for the
period from January 2001 to June 2014.

Attached are the following tables showing the monthly breakdowns of
recorded offences for public place assault and public place disorder
offences and apprehensions for public place assault and disorder offences
within Auckland Central Station for the months between January 2001 and
June 2014:

·         Recorded offences by 3-hour bands

·         Recorded apprehensions by specified age band

·         Recorded apprehensions by specified hour band and age band

·         Mean age of offender by year and month

·         Mean age of offender by year, month and specified hour band

As discussed with Obert Cinco, Official Statistics are published three
months after the end of each fiscal (30 June) or calendar (31 December)
year. The data provided are based on the latest fiscal year statistics
ending 30 June 2014. Therefore, the attached data will differ slightly
from previously provided data which used calendar year statistics.

Please note that the apprehension data provided are based on the time
offences occurred. Often, this time is not known precisely, so police
record both the earliest and the latest times an offence could have
occurred. The midpoint of these two times is used where the precise time
of the offence is unknown.

I trust this information meets your needs.

Regards,

Dr Gavin Knight
