Mental Injury Cover Part A

Gladys Webster made this Official Information request to Accident Compensation Corporation

The request was partially successful.

From: Gladys Webster

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,
A client has cover for PTSD. SCU have several treating practitioner reports citing current active PTSD symptoms. Cover is established. Only investigation required under law (The Act 1992) is a medical assessment regarding s(103) at date of injury. If all this is provided to SCU why do they distress clients by saying investigations will take 4 months?
This is cruel and not highest service or best practice! A physical claim has cover and entitlements established within days, and SCU take 4 months???? (SCU's incompetence?) Surely discrimination!

Yours faithfully,

Gladys Webster

Please accept any apologies owing in advance should this appear on the 'personal' side. I agree with the earlier statement... This site must be used for official information, in so doing it provides transparency and understanding for clients, consumers and kiwi's alike. We hear your frustration and am sure many wish they could assist or put you at ease with the ansers to what can often be seen by many as frivolous and trivial... Chin up e hoa...go well and arohanui

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,
Sorry it was not meant to be a complaint - more a comment on the process between those with a physical injury and those with a mental injury. The 21 days and 4 months seems to be quite disparate between the two injuries when cover has been granted.
Apologies for the complaint aspect.

Yours faithfully,

Gladys Webster

And as helpful advice to ACC requesters (because there seem to be a lot of you): in order to be considered an OIA request, you need to actually request information, and that request needs to be with "due particularity" (it must be clear what you are seeking). The easiest ways to get a request refused are to:
* not be clear about exactly what you want;
* request vast amounts of information which will be difficult for them to dig up;

And if you send vast floods of ill-formed or abusive requests, they'll just start charging (which they can legally do even for small requests) to get you to go away.

Dear Accident Compensation Corporation,
How many days did it take for SCU covered claims to be granted entitlements during 2012 and 2013?
How many assessor reports were obtain by SCU per claim during 2012 and 2013?

Yours faithfully,

Gladys Webster
