Dear Ms Hardly

We refer to your Official Information Act request made to the Financial
Markets Authority on 4 April 2021 via the FYI website relating to the Bank
of China’s obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering
Financing of Terrorism Act 2009.

I note that the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, rather than the Financial
Markets Authority, has the role of supervising banks to ensure they meet
obligations designed to help deter and detect money laundering and
terrorist financing.  For this reason I consider that the information you
request is more closely connected with the functions of the Reserve Bank.
This being the case, pursuant to section 14 of the Official Information
Act, I have transferred your request to the Reserve Bank.

Kind regards

Natalie Muir
