Single Use Plastic Coffee/Hot Drink Cup Lid and Plastic Straw Ban

Liz Simons made this Official Information request to Phil Twyford

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Phil Twyford should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Liz Simons

Dear Phil Twyford,

A few years ago this government helped ban single use plastic bags. It has all around been a great success. However more effort needs to be taken to stop more plastics ending up in landfills and in the seas that can hurt wildlife. I request under the Official Information Act (OIA) what efforts and progress has been made towards banning single use plastic coffee/hot drink cup lids and plastic straws.

While not widely used in our domestic market it is clear that there is suitable paper and cardboard alternatives to the single use plastic coffee and hot drink lids.

Likewise while a lot of business now use reusable straws there is adequate availability of single use paper straws.
