I refer to your official information request of Thursday 28th January [WDC
reference COP003191] seeking information on roads with most complaints
within the District and any metal roads that are scheduled or planned to
be sealed.

 

Your request was referred to representatives of the Northland
Transportation Alliance (Council’s Roading Department) for consideration
and the answers to each of your questions are as follows:

 

Question 1 - Could you provide a list of roads in the Whangarei district
that WDC has received the most complaints about. If this is too much work
for an OIA request then a top ten list would be acceptable.

 

The following 10 roads have the highest number of recorded customer
requests for the 12 months of 2020:

 

 

Further to the above, the following table lists the ten roads with highest
number of customer requests for roads with an unsealed/metal section
(noting in some cases a portion of the road may be sealed) along with the
overall ranking for each road compared against all other roads within the
District:

 

 

Question 2 - Could you also list any metal roads that are scheduled or
planned for in the future by Council to be sealed regardless of funding or
not.

 

Below is the current list of planned Seal Extensions as reported to the
WDC Infrastructure Committee on Thursday 10^th December (Table comes from
Page 50 of the [1]Agenda).

 

All sites listed in the “2019 Approved Seal Extension Programme” section
of the table are scheduled for construction within this summer
construction season (by April 2021). In the WDC Infrastructure Committee
on Thursday 10^th December the two “Proposed 2020 Seal Extension
Programme” were approved by the Committee – these will likely be
constructed in 2021/22 Financial year.

 

(Note – the inclusion of the road does not necessarily mean that the road
will be sealed in its entirety – lengths to be sealed are stated in the
table)

 

 

I hope this information is of some assistance in responding to your
request.   If you believe we have not responded appropriately to your
request, you have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) of
the Act, to apply to the Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of
the decision.
