Operating systems in use by the New Zealand Police

James Macey made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: James Macey

Dear Sir/Madam,

What I am requesting is essentially a breakdown of operating systems in use by the New Zealand Police. To be specific:

1) The number of devices in use running non-server Windows NT operating systems, broken down by version name (e.g. XP, Vista, 7, 10).
2) The number of devices in use running Windows Server operating systems, broken down by the version (e.g. 2003, 2003 R2, 2019).
3) The number of devices in use running macOS or Mac OS X, broken down either by minor version (e.g. 10.0, 10.7, 11.0) or release name (e.g. Cheetah, Lion, Big Sur).
4) The number of devices in use running iOS or iPadOS, broken down by major version (e.g. iOS 10, iOS 12, iOS 14) and by device type (tablet or phone)
5) The number of devices in use running Android, broken down by both device type (tablet or phone) and one of:
a. minor version for major versions prior to 5.0 and major version for versions 5 and up, or;
b. version name (e.g. Nougat, Oreo, Pie).
6) The number of devices in use running Linux, broken down by distribution and version.
7) The number of devices in use running any other operating system (e.g. Windows Embedded), with version information to an extent similar to that requested in (1) through (6).

(1) through (7) should sum to the total number of computers, tablets, phones and servers in use by the New Zealand Police.

This request includes devices owned and leased by the New Zealand Police, as well as any instances of operating systems running in the cloud (for example, through Amazon Web Services EC2). A single host with multiple virtual instances of an operating system(s) can constitute multiple "devices" for the purpose of this request.

I am a New Zealand citizen and am making this request from within New Zealand.

Yours faithfully,

James Macey
