New Zealand Police
Good morning Kieran
Regarding the information you requested from Police on 20/07/19. You asked
the following question:
“I would like to request the info for which Communications Centres serve
the following islands please.
· Chatham Island
· Great Barrier Island”
Chatham Islands
The Chatham Islands are not served by any of the NZ Police Emergency
Communication Centres. They have their own system. In an emergency
situation in the Chatham Islands if you need help from Police dial 111 or
3050111. Both numbers achieve a Police response.
In a non-emergency situation dial 105. Your call will be answered by
Triage Communicators based in either Wellington or Paraparaumu. They will
direct your call to the appropriate area within Police.
Great Barrier Island
In an emergency situation if you need help from Police, Fire and Emergency
New Zealand, or you need an Ambulance, dial 111 and the emergency operator
will connect you to the right service.
If you advise the emergency operator that you need Police, they will
transfer your call to the Police Emergency Communications Centre. NZ
Police have Emergency Communication Centres based in Auckland, Wellington
and Christchurch. Our telephony system directs calls to available
Communicators so your call could be answered in Auckland, Wellington or
Christchurch. The information you provide will then be entered into our
Computer Assisted Resource Dispatch System and will be visible to the
Dispatcher responsible for Great Barrier Island.
In a non-emergency situation dial 105. Your call will be answered by
Triage Communicators based in either Wellington or Paraparaumu. They will
direct your call to the appropriate area within Police.
