Statistics of strangulation rates charges on the news
Zane Collins made this Official Information request to Jan Logie
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Jan Logie should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Zane Collins
Dear Jan Logie,
I request the source of the statistics/figures you have provided on the news link as below. Based on the Family violence offences tables and statistics (end of 2018 financial year) on the ministry of justice website. It clearly shows that there was one only charge and conviction since the new law of strangulation was implemented.
You quoted as below;
"Minister of Justice (Domestic and Sexual Violence Issues) under-secretary Jan Logie said there were 252 victims, who are known about, who "have had their life teeter"."
"The number of people charged with strangulation since a new law was introduced on December 3 has soared, with nearly 30 people having been charged within the first 11 days. That number is now over 250."
