Dear New Zealand Police,
As a response has not yet been received, and this is the third one I have lodged recently which is now overdue.
Please keep in mind that under the Official Information Act 1982, s 12 you are required to accept a request in any form that it is submitted, as such any reasons given for delays are inadequate justifications at this stage. I have now forwarded this to the ombudsman for further investigation.
Yours faithfully,
Lance O'Riley

Dear WRIGHT-MCCARTHY, Hannah,
What is the status of this request? a response is now well and truly overdue and cannot reasonably be explained by an administrative error at this point.
This is a serious failing of your obligations under the Official Information Act 1982, s15(1). Please provide an update as to when a response can be expected.
Yours sincerely,
Lance O'Riley

Dear Mr O’Riley – please find attached my response to your OIA request. My
sincere apologies for the delay in responding, we had some problems
receiving requests via FYI in March and your request was one of those
affected. The issue has since been rectified.
Kind regards
Ngâ mihi

Thanks Mark.
Truly disappointing that the police refused the majority of this request, especially given the time frames they took to answer the request in the first instance.
They have provided a contact number for them so I shall call them to try get this data even if it takes a significant time for it to be provided. Failing this I will contact the Ombudsman again to see if this can be pushed as arguably this could be of public interest to be provided.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence

It's disappointing that NZ Police have chosen not to respond to your request in an accessible format. Here is a clickable link to the page on the SSC website included in their image-based PDF response: http://www.ssc.govt.nz/official-informat...
Data for the number of OIA requests completed within (and not completed within) the legislated timeframe were not included in the latest set of data, for 1 July - 31 Dec 2018. This means NZ Police have not given any accurate grounds for refusing to release this information, because despite their assertion to the contrary it is *not* publicly available.
The spreadsheet published by the SSC clarifies that this failure by NZ Police to provide this data was caused by "A reporting design error... in NZ Police's new Information Request Tool".
