Information about whether Police were informed about a crash

Hugh Davenport made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: Hugh Davenport

Dear New Zealand Police,

I saw on facebook that a bus hit a parked car while pulling into a bus stop. The link to this post is https://www.facebook.com/groups/vicdeals...

I would like to know whether the driver or company representative contacted the Police to inform them of the collision. If they did, I would like to know how long after the collision they informed the Police. If this was after 60 hours after the collision, I would like to know whether the Police informed them that they are required to by law to inform the Police no later than 60 hours after a collision if they can't inform the driver as per the road code (https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/roadc...)

I believe in this instance the driver was not known to the driver or the company as the car was parked and no occupant of the car, which would require the Police be informed.

The bus information: Route 26, Bus number 3324, LNB373.
The car information: rego HAA298
The crash location: Brandon St, Wellington, bus stop 5520
The crash time: 18th December 2018, potentially around 7pm. The request https://fyi.org.nz/request/9277-informat... will narrow the time down.

Yours faithfully,

Hugh Davenport
