Kia ora kotou,

Thank you for your interest in the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel and
inquiry regarding the panel.

Auckland Council established the Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel to better
understand the views of ethnic communities in Auckland as part of the
council's decision-making process.

On 10 November 2016, The mayor and councillors made a decision to have the
following six demographic advisory panels for the 2016-2019 term:

- Disability Advisory Panel

- Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel

- Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel

- Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel

- Seniors Advisory Panel

- Youth Advisory Panel.

Following the decision, the council called for applications for the Ethnic
Peoples Advisory Panel positions in early 2017, and went through a
selection process for the three year term that ends in early September
2019. The selection criteria included the candidates'

- lived experience and sound understanding of ethnic communities in
Auckland

- understanding on the Treaty of Waitangi

- ability to think strategically and critically

- ability to understand and interpret policy, project plans and strategy
plans

- ability and confidence to offer high-level policy and strategic advice

- commitment to scheduled panel meetings and workshops (weekday day and/or
evenings).

- commitment to a three year term, being April 2017 to September 2019.

Each panel member gets paid a meeting fee of NZ$250 less an applicable tax
each time they attend a meeting.

The panel chair gets paid $530 less an applicable tax for each panel
meeting as the chair would be involved in additional engagement meetings
with the council.

The meeting fees are based on the Auckland Council Fees Framework for
Appointed Members which aligns with the Cabinet Fees Framework.

The current panel members' term ends early September 2019, one month prior
to the 2019 local government elections.

The appointment of the panel members for the next term is subject to
approval of the panel model by the mayor and councillors in the 2019-2022
term.

If the mayor and councillors would decide to continue the current advisory
panel model for the 2019-2022 term, the council is likely to call for
applications for new advisory panel members in early 2020.

Please feel free to contact Austin Kim, Principal Advisor Panels if you
have any further questions.

You can contact him at [1][email address] or 027 242

Nga mihi,

Austin Kim
