Dear John,

Thank you for your request for information about expressions of interest
for assessors, trustees, panel members and boards members with Council
Controlled Organisations and within Auckland Council. Please find our
response below.

Substantive council-controlled organisations (CCOs)

Auckland Council has five substantive CCOs:

o Auckland Transport;
o Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Limited:
o Panuku Development Auckland Limited;
o Regional Facilities Auckland;
o Watercare Services Limited.

All director appointments to the substantive CCOs are publicly
advertised.  Appropriately experienced directors can apply to be
considered for these roles when they are being advertised.  Auckland
Council has engaged an independent recruitment company to assist with the
sourcing and recruiting of appropriate directors.  Kerridge & Partners
currently perform this role for council.  Any people who wish to be
considered for a role as a substantive CCO director need to contact
Kerridge & Partners when the roles are being advertised.

Auckland Council is required by legislation to have an objective and
transparent process for the appointment of CCO director.  The “Auckland
Council Appointment and Remuneration Policy for Board Members of Council
Organisations” guides the process for appointing CCO directors.  A copy of
this policy can be found at
[1]https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/plan...

For your information, the decision making process for director
appointments is summarised in the diagram below:

Council’s policy is to appoint directors for a three year term.  Directors
are normally appointed for up to two three year terms, unless there are
exceptional circumstances that would justify a further term of
appointment.

Other CCOs and council organisations (COs)

Auckland Council also has the right to appoint trustees to a number of
other CCOs and COs.  These tend to be smaller scale organisations, that
have more of a local (as opposed to regional) focus.  Trustee roles for
these organisations are often advertised, although some of these
organisations run their own appointment processes.

If members of the public want to be considered for a role on one of these
community organisations, they can either respond to any advertisements, or
send an expression of interest, together with a CV, to
[2][email address]

Please refer to the following link for an overview of the advisory panels
including the selection process:

Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to
your request, you have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3)
of the Act, to apply to the Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review
of this decision.

Kind regards,
