Visits to Schools: Previous Prime Ministers

Matthew Hooton made this Official Information request to Ministry of Education

The request was refused by Ministry of Education.

From: Matthew Hooton

Dear Ministry of Education,

Based on Ministry of Education briefing notes and other records, please provide a list of all the schools each of the following Prime Ministers visited during their first 252 days as Prime Minister (or, if their term was less than 252 days, all the schools they visited during their term):

* Rt Hon. Sir Bill English
* Rt Hon. Sir John Key
* Rt Hon. Helen Clark
* Rt Hon. Dame Jenny Shipley
* Rt Hon. Jim Bolger
* Rt Hon. Mike Moore
* Rt Hon. Sir Geoffrey Palmer

For each school, please provide the date or - if that is not clear, just the month - of the visit.

Please note I fully understand that for the earlier-serving Prime Ministers, there may need to be a delay in your response, but please respond separately and as soon as reasonably practicable for the more recent Prime Ministers.

Please also note that I fully understand the information you provide may necessarily be incomplete as it is possible the relevant Prime Minister may have visited schools without the ministry being aware at the time or having retained a record.

To assist you in a speedy response, I am not requesting information on who the relevant Prime Minister met at the school or what was discussed.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Hooton
