NZ Police Policy - Property
Susan Jackman made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was partially successful.
From: Susan Jackman
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am a New Zealand citizen and currently reside in Aotearoa, as required by s12(1) of the OIA 1982.
During the course of a search either with or without warrant, the NZ Police will often discover money or cash either in a premises or on a person. Would you please provide me with the official NZ Police policy and/or procedures regarding the recording, handling and storage of such money/cash from the time of discovery until the return of the money to the person, forfeiture to the crown as criminal proceeds or seizure by other govt agencies such as the IRD. Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
S.M. Jackman

From: FOXWELL, Holly
New Zealand Police
Dear S.M. Jackman
I have been asked to let you know that Police requires an extension of
time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of
the Official Information Act 1982, because the request necessitates a
search through a large quantity of information and consultations such that
a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit.
Police require until 9 July 2018 to provide a substantive response to your
request.
You have the right to ask the Office of the Ombudsman to review this
extension.
