Distribution of 1080 poison baits to Moehau Environment Group MEG
Wendy Pond made this Official Information request to Department of Conservation

From: Wendy Pond
Dear Department of Conservation,
1080 poison baits were supplied to Moehau Environment Group MEG during 2017.
MEG operates in a ward that has Community Board resolutions 2007, 2009, 2011, 2017 opposing the use of 1080, and operates in a district that has District Council resolutions 2009 and 2018 advocating to the Minister of Conservation that where possible animal pest control in the Thames-Coromandel District be undertaken by trapping, hunting and non-residual poisons. (DoC's literature and warning notices recognise that 1080 is a residual poison.) The local government resolutions are an endorsement of community representation.
In addition, in July 2017 the Hauraki Herald published a full page with names of kaumatua, iwi and community groups, and general public opposing the poisoning of Coromandel forests with 1080. Please state what weight DoC gives to community representation.
Please provide a copy of the application from MEG with environmental impact report, a copy of the permission granted with consent conditions, a copy of the final operational report, and any other documents relating to the application and permission for use of 1080 poison by MEG.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Wendy Pond
