Dear Mr McIntosh
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) Request
I refer to your request, made via FYI, of 8 March 2018 requesting
information concerning reported UFO sightings made to the Civil Aviation
Authority (CAA).
UFO sightings reported to CAA each year:
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|2000 |1 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2003 |2 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2004 |2 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2007 |2 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2009 |1 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2011 |1 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2012 |1 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2013 |3 |
|-------------------------------------+----------------------------------|
|2007 |4 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Where are most sightings located?
Sightings reported to the CAA are spread throughout the country however
Auckland has produced the most reports with 3.
Does the CAA investigated them?
The CAA does not investigate UFO reports. Without identification of the
aircraft there is little that the CAA can do.
The same question applies to abductions and incidents involving injury or
death.
As above. To date the CAA has not received any reports of abductions or
UFO incidents involving injury or death.
Is the general public going to ever get full disclosure?
The CAA is not in a position to comment.
If you have any queries about your request, please contact me at
