New Zealand Police

DearEddy,

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Irefer to your Official Information Act (OIA) request dated 25 November
2017 in which you requested the following:

“The annual crime statistics held by the New Zealand Police (or other
Government Agency, if the information is not held by the New Zealand
Police), for the settlement of Koitiata (also known as Turakina Beach);
for Reported Offences by type and number; for the period 2012 to ytd 2017.

If the information is not held on a settlement or area level, please
provide the lowest level of reporting covering that which is relative to
the settlement or area, as recorded and/or actioned by the Marton and/or
Wanganui Police Stations.”

Policeproactively release statistics to the public, which are updated
monthly. This information you requested is available online at
[1]policedata.nz . The‘Victimisation Time and Place’ and ‘Demand and
Activity’ reports will be the most useful for your purposes. Please read
the instructions on the summary page on how to use these reports. Note
that Police no longer produce statistics on recorded offences due to
Police’s statistical series being improved and updated with the assistance
of Statistics NZ in July 2014. Data on recorded offences prior to July
2014 can be found at [2]nzdotstat ,these statistics are not comparable.
[Please refer to section 18(d) of the OIA].

Using the ‘Victimisation Time and Place’ report you can see the official
crime victimisation statistics for the area unit Koitiata. After selecting
Koitiata on the map you can access the data set for this area unit at the
bottom right hand of the page under Download > Data > Full data.

Usingthe ‘Demand and Activity’ report you can see the number of
occurrences for incidents, tasks, and offences that are reported to and
recorded by Police for the Koitiata area unit. You can access the data set
as mentioned above.

If any of this is unclear, please contact my team on 04 460 2999 or at
[3][email address] .

If you are not satisfied with my response to your request you have the
right to complain to the Office of the Ombudsmen and seek an investigation
and review of my decision.

Yourssincerely,
