Transfer of request for official information

 

Thank you for your Official Information Act request of 9 August 2019
requesting information on recidivism rates and rehabilitation programmes
in prisons. Specifically, you requested the following:

 

I am after records of New Zealand recidivism rates for all adult offenders
within two years of release. So any offender released from prison who has
reoffended two years after their initial release, statistics per year or
an overall percentage.

 

Alongside this, I would also like any possible information surrounding
currently active reintegration/rehabilitation programs offered for
offenders pre-release. This may contain drug and alcohol rehab programs,
education programs or any other program that may aid in the reintegration
process once an offender is released. This information could be briefs,
summaries, statistics or any other documents pertaining to information of
this kind.

 

The information you requested is not held by the Ministry of Justice.

 

However, on 13 August 2019 I consulted the Department of Corrections and
they advised they hold this information. I have therefore transferred your
request to the Department of Corrections under section 14 of the OIA. You
will hear from them regarding your request in due course.  You have the
right under section 28(3) of the OIA to complain to the Ombudsman about
the decision to transfer your request. The Ombudsman may be contacted by
