Total number of Rural Fires and area Burnt for the years 2015 and 2016

Dear New Zealand Fire Service Commission,
The Discussion Document released by DIA in May 2015 included a graph of rural fire over the period 1981 - 2014. Whilst the graph quite clearly indicated that both the number of fires and the total area burnt was steadily trending DOWN the document quite deliberately stated that "there is an increasing number of vegetation fires". Previous questions to DIA failed to identify why they chose to publish such a claim when the evidence clearly indicated otherwise.
The Commission no longer publishes an annual report of fire statistics and I seek to understand the implications of DIA's statements on an ongoing basis.
Can you please provide me with:
1. The annual data on the number of rural fires in NZ and the total area burnt for 2015. A break down by plantation, public land and other would assist if available.
2. The annual data on the number of rural fires in NZ and the total area burnt for 2016. A breakdown by plantation, public and other would assist if available.

Dear Fire Service Commission,
As advised in my OIA request, the information re annual rural fire statistics that I interested in related to the graph as presented on Page 53 of the Fire Services Discussion Document as released by DIA in 2015. This graph was quite deliberately mis-represented by DIA as showing that "there was an increasing number of rural fires". The data in this graph is set out by year. Ie, 1981 through 2014.
In my OIA request I specifically requested the data for the 2015 year AND the 2016 year.
You have supplied me data for the 2015/16 financial year which is not what I requested.
Can you please forward the correct data as requested as soon as possible.

RE: My OIA dated 28 Aug and your response dated 21 Sept.
As advised, the information released to me with respect to the total rural fire and the area burnt for the years 2015 and 2016 was for the 2015/16 financial year only. I requested the information for the 2016 year (ie 2016/167) also.
I have received no other advice other than an acknowledgement of my letter (dated 22 Sept) re this omission.
