Dear Mr. Kitson,
I write in regards to your LGOIMA request logged via fyi.
You requested ‘all correspondence exchanged between August 2016 and June
2017 between Auckland Council and Watercare on the question of logging
and/or planting of natives on Watercare land in the hunuas’. We have
completed an IS search for the information you have requested, and have
determined that in its current form your request is of a substantial
nature. Our initial search returned 3,212 relevant items relating to your
request, and after removing duplicate information we were left with 1,552
relevant items.
As the scope of this request is very large and will require substantial
collation and review, this request will be refused under section 17(f) of
the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987. With
some more guidance from you about the information you are looking for, we
may be able to proceed with this search, but please note that owing to the
volume of information requested this may still incur a charge under our
[1]charging policy for LGOIMA requests.
Should you wish to refine your request, please provide us with names of
specific parties involved (staff), and/or a more narrow timeframe (for
example – ‘all correspondence exchanged between January 2017 and June
2017…’). If no clarification is made, it is likely that your request will
be refused under section 17(f) of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987, being that the information requested
cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing your reply.
Kind regards,
Aaron Henry

Subject: RE: Hunua CAN description
Hi Jeanette,
For Hunua the description is based on the pee weevil CAN and we discussed
this being ok with MPI on Tuesday. The boundaries are very clear on the
map and in the description. Perhaps you can mark up the points you would
like described and we can work on this?
Nga mihi,
Mara

Subject: RE: Hunua CAN description
Kia ora Mara
The wording does not provide boundaries with any certainty or reference
points that we could enforce in law, reference to areas that are Council
administered or leased are irrelevant without knowing what it is we’re
enforcing. I understood from my communications with Rachel that Hugo was
working on providing those reference points to our team – perhaps I
misunderstood. I do not have the software to open the files he has sent
through so I will await the draft being worked up by our team here.
But to be clear, we need clear reference points on a map and a description
like the ones I sent through last week from previously issued CANs

Subject: Hunua CAN description
Kia ora Jeanette,
Please find attached a suggested CAN description for the Hunua CAN as
requested. Can you please confirm the following
1. That this is sufficient?
2. If no under 1) please confirm the requirements from an MPI perspective
3. That you have the maps and don’t require any additional files or
information for mapping purposes?
4. The process for AC to check the CAN please – we are particular keen to
carefully check the exemptions etc.
Well done to those involved in this Hunua work. I really appreciate the
extra effort to deliver through to MPI this week and the responsiveness to
changing aspects etc. Great work all 😊
We have a couple of final changes to make for the Waitakere CAN, that are
contingent on confirmation from those in the field at the moment but we
hope to have that through shortly.
Nga mihi,
Mara Bebich
