Road Safety Vehicle Colours - Technical Visual Aspect Process of Colours been more Safer Than White in order to Protect Staff and Road Users
Anthony Jordan made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was partially successful.
From: Anthony Jordan
Dear New Zealand Police,
Thank you for your recently previous disclosure, on reflection I wasn't as thorough and specific.
In the context of taking all practicable steps to ensure Employee safety.
1/ What part of the process to decide colors was used to determine that the change to colors would ensure all practicable steps for safety of staff that are on the road as their primary employment
One assumes White is the best choice of color than colors, as we do not use the same colors in road markings
2/ Please provide evidence that would indicate the colors used my New Zealand Police are more suitable for the safety of vehicle and its Occupants in Primary Bitumen use
As an individual with no color recognition impairment, what evidence can be disclosed to indicate the intentions are to make the vehicle more visible (In a physical sense) to avoid collisions rather than indicate a presence of Police on the road.
Yours faithfully,
Anthony Jordan

Dear Mr Jordan
I refer to your Official Information Act request of 27 June 2017. You
asked:
1. What part of the process to decide colors was used to determine
that the change to colors would ensure all practicable steps for safety of
staff that are on the road as their primary employment. One assumes White
is the best choice of color than colors, as we do not use the same colors
in road markings
2. Please provide evidence that would indicate the colors used my New
Zealand Police are more suitable for the safety of vehicle and its
Occupants in Primary Bitumen use
3. As an individual with no color recognition impairment, what
evidence can be disclosed to indicate the intentions are to make the
vehicle more visible (In a physical sense) to avoid collisions rather than
indicate a presence of Police on the road.
On behalf of Police, I would like to apologise for the delay in receiving
a response to your request. Due to an administrative error, Police did not
notify you of the need to extend the time limit to respond to this request
earlier.
The consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such
that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit. I believe Police is able to provide you with a response by 17
August.
I will prioritise your request where possible. Please do not hesitate to
get in touch early next week for an update on the status of your request.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision to extend
the time limit for deciding upon your request.
Kind regards
Ali
