Roads in Titirangi

Simon Kitson made this Official Information request to Auckland Council

Response to this request is long overdue. By law Auckland Council should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.

From: Simon Kitson

Dear Auckland Council,

Watercare want to build a new Water Treatment Plant in Titirangi. Locals are very concerned with a number of aspects of this development but one aspect I wanted to ask about here concerns roads, as it is obvious that a large amount of construction traffic would need to pass through the village- both taking out felled trees and bringing in concrete to replace the trees. What measures will Auckland Council be undertaking to improve Titirangi's roads in anticipation of this development. Locals are especially concerned about Scenic Drive through which much construction traffic would have to pass. We believe this road is not very stable- there have been a number of landslips in the area. We are also concerned because this road contains a dangerous combination of locals who drive too fast, tourists who drive too slowly and cyclists (Auckland Council's concerns about this road are outlined here: https://at.govt.nz/about-us/have-your-sa... ). Adding a lot of construction traffic to the mix seems extremely irresponsible. What measures will be taken to strengthen the road and if necessary to rebuild it? This road is essential to Waitakere tourism as a standard tourist route is to stop off in Titirangi for a coffee or lunch and then to drive along Scenic Drive to attractions like the Arataki Visitors Centre or Piha.

Thanks in advance for any response you can give.

Yours faithfully,

Simon Kitson

Dear AT Official Information (AT),

I would really appreciate an answer to this query. What measures are envisaged to make Scenic Drive safe between Titirangi Roundabout and Woodlands Park Road in the event that Watercare's plans for a new Water Treatment Plant in Woodlands Park Road. When will testing be carried out to check the structural integrity of this road in the event that it is expected to play host to a huge amount of construction traffic? In addition to the structural integrity of the road itself I would be interested to know if any measures are envisaged to prevent potentially lethal landslips on to this road. This is very relevant to the question of the Water Treatment Plant because if the WTP is built there it is likely that trucks carrying dangerous chemicals would continue to use this road. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me about measures envisaged for making this road safer.

Yours sincerely,

Simon Kitson
