    Dear David,

Official information request for ‘Theft of Drugs’ offence data.

I refer to your official information request dated March 15, 2017 for the
number of drug thefts recorded and prosecuted for the years from 2011 to
 2016.

The below table shows the total number of victimisations for theft of
drugs offences from July 2014 to December 2016 broken down by Outcome of
 Investigation.

Theft of Drugs Victimisations from July 2014 to December 2016
   Year
 July to Dec 2014 2015 2016
 Court Action 4 5 3
 Non-Court Action 33 58 65
 Total Victimisations 37 63 68

A victimisation counts a person once for each criminal incident for the
most serious offence within an offence group. Please note that instances
are excluded where, at 30 days after coming to Police attention, Police
 determines no crime actually occurred.

Comparable victimisation data for periods prior to July 2014 are
unavailable due to a system upgrade that occurred in June 2014. More
information about the change is available here:
 [1]http://www.police.govt.nz/about-us/publi...
 .
‘Theft of Drugs’ data using the old crime statistics between 1990 and 2014
 is publicly available at:

I trust this information is sufficient for your purposes. As you may be
aware, you have the right under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek a review
