Ministry of Justice

Dear Renee,

Officialinformation request for 2013-2016 Crime Statistics for Maori Youth
Offenders in Lower Hutt Area Units.

I refer to your official information requestdated 2 February 2017 for
crime statistics relating to Maori youth offending broken down by area
units in Lower Hutt for years 2013 to 2016.

The information you requested in publiclyavailable at
[1]http://www.police.govt.nz/about-us/publi...

Followingconsultation with Statistics New Zealand, and in order to protect
the privacy of individuals, information on offenders is only available at
Police Area level (Hutt-Valley Area).

In July2014 Police, in collaboration with Statistic NZ, replaced its old
crime statistics series collection with improved statistics that are more
victim focused. The old and new statistics count crime differently, so are
not directly comparable. Information on policedata.nz is available from
July 2014 onwards.

Althoughfor the reasons above none of the information you have sought has
been provided with this letter, I trust my response is still helpful in
guiding you to online holdings for such data.

You havethe right under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek a review of my
handling of your request by the Office of the Ombudsmen.

Yourssincerely,

Dr. GavinKnight
