Hillside

trainluva7 made this Official Information request to KiwiRail

The request was successful.

From: trainluva7

Dear KiwiRail,
Just wondering why dc 4438 and 4473 are specifcally laid up at hillside instead of hutt. As with 4277 at Middleton. Is something happening to them? Also is linwood depot still functional. And is the TR still there?

Yours faithfully,

trainluva7

Dear Sir/Madam

We are writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 request
for the following information:

•             Why dc 4438 and 4473 are specifically laid up at hillside
instead of Hutt. As with 4277 at Middleton.  Is something happening to
them?

•             Is Linwood depot still functional, and is the TR still
there?

KiwiRail responds as follows:

Why dc 4438 and 4473 are specifically laid up at hillside instead of
Hutt.  As with 4277 at Middleton.  Is something happening to them?

As you note, both the DC 4438 and 4473 are at the Hillside workshop in
Dunedin, and the DCP 4277 is at the Middleton depot in Christchurch.
These locomotives are being kept in the South island for operational
reasons.

Is Linwood depot still functional, and is the TR still there?

In 2011 the Linwood Depot was seriously damaged by the second Christchurch
earthquake and subsequently closed.  Currently, two TR shunting tractors
are in use in the South Island. TR 874 is in Picton and TR 603 will be
relocated to Dunedin shortly.

Under s28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review
this response.  Please refer to www.ombudsman.govt.nz for more
information.

Regards

Louise
