Crime statistics for both wellington region and blair street

Zac Klavs made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

The request was successful.

From: Zac Klavs

Dear New Zealand Police,

I am a New Zealand citizen and compiling information in regards to "Crime Corridor" for a university assignment.

I am submitting a request for data relating to crime in the wellington region. I would like to know the total number of police callouts to Chaffers New World for violence or alcohol related offenses in the period June 2014- June 2015.

I would also like the total number of police callouts for violence and alcohols for the wellington central region June 2014-june 2015.

I would also like the alcohol and violence callout figures for both of these areas for the period August 22-27 2015 and October 26-november 26 2015

Yours faithfully,

Zachary Klavs

Dear Zachary

Thank you for your request received on 14 January 2016 under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) relating to information on police callouts
specific to Wellington .

Please find below two tables showing Police dispatches to the mesh block
area containing Chaffers New World in Wellington and to the Wellington
City Territorial Authority. The tables show dispatches for violent
offences and for offences that legislation specifies alcohol as an
ingredient of the offence.

    Chaffers New World Mesh Block

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|  |Jun 2014 - Jun |Aug 22 - 27 2015|Oct 26 - Nov 26 |
| |2015 | |2015 |
|-----------------+------------------+----------------+------------------|
|Violence offences| 16 | 0 | 0 |
|-----------------+------------------+----------------+------------------|
|Alcohol offences | 15 | 0 | 3 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+

    Wellington City Territorial Authority

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|  |Jun 2014 - Jun 2015|Aug 22 - 27 2015|Oct 26 - Nov 26 |
| | | |2015 |
|-----------------+-------------------+----------------+-----------------|
|Violence offences| 2,280 | 58 | 176 |
|-----------------+-------------------+----------------+-----------------|
|Alcohol offences | 252 | 2 | 403 |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+

These figures are based on the situation as it appeared to the attending
officer and may not reflect the final outcome of the incident after a
complete investigation.

Please note that the influence of alcohol on specific instances of
offending is difficult to measure consistently and is not identified in
Police statistics (Section 18(g) of the OIA refers). So, although this
information has not been supplied, I trust my response is still helpful to
you. If you have any questions please let me know.

Also, you have the right under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek a review
of my handling of your request by the Office of the Ombudsmen.

Yours sincerely
