Police policy around speed cameras

Shaun Brown made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

This request has been reported as needing administrator attention (perhaps because it is vexatious, or a request for personal information)

From: Shaun Brown

Dear New Zealand Police,

I was walking back from the supermarket today and was told by a speed camera contractor that I was not allowed to walk or stand behind the van from which he was operating a speed camera. The contractor falsely stated that this was an offense under Section 55 of the Land Transport Act, although that section solely relates to physical tampering or electronic interference with the speed enforcement equipment. An officer he summoned could not provide any grounds under which walking around speed cameras could be a violation of the law.

1) Has the 'Speed Enforcement' chapter of the Police Manual been updated since it was last released on 08 December 2021?
2) If it has, please provide:
a. A copy of the latest version of the document.
b. The date on which the current version of the document came into effect.
c. The next planned review date of the document.
d. The licence under which the document and any accompanying information is released.

If possible, I would prefer that the information be released under the Creative Commons Attribute 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/... , which is recommended under the NZGOAL framework https://www.data.govt.nz/toolkit/policie... . Cabinet has invited NZ Police to take NZGOAL into account when releasing copyright material and non-copyright material to the public for re-use https://www.data.govt.nz/assets/Uploads/... .

3) Please identify any Police guidance related to the legality of people parking, walking, or standing behind speed camera vans.

I am a New Zealand citizen.

Kia pai tō rā,
Shaun Brown
