Dear University of Auckland,
Could you please provide the following statistical information regarding staff conduct or misconduct matters (excluding student academic misconduct processes) recorded by The University from 1 January 2024 to the date of this request, whether held in reports, databases, or internal tracking systems:
1. Total Complaints: The total number of complaints/concerns recorded relating to staff conduct (counted as unique matters or cases, where applicable), broken down by:
• Category: e.g., harassment, bullying, discrimination, harmful sexual behaviour, etc., or equivalent used by The University. Please note if any complaints fall under multiple categories.
• Complainant Type: Student, staff, or external/third-party.
2. Progression & Status:
• The number of matters that proceeded to a formal investigation.
• The number of complaints currently closed vs. still in progress.
3. Review & Appeals:
• The number of cases where an internal appeal or review of the investigation/outcome was requested.
• The number/percentage of those requests that were granted.
4. Timelines: The average (mean and/or median and where possible, spread measures) time from the initial concern being raised to the conclusion of the formal investigation.
5. Outcomes:
• The number of complaints by outcome: withdrawn, not upheld, partially upheld, or fully upheld findings
• The number of cases resulting in: (a) formal disciplinary processes, (b) an instruction to improve/informal action, or (c) no action taken against the staff member.
•The number of cases resulting in a finding of serious misconduct (or equivalent classification, if used)
6. External Escalation:
• The number of cases where an external third-party process has been initiated (e.g., the Office of the Ombudsman, Office of the Privacy Commissioner, Human Rights Commission), where such information is centrally recorded or tracked
• Of those, how many are currently open vs. closed
• For closed cases, how many resulted in a substantiated or confirmed breach
If any part of this request is considered too broad or the information is not held in the form requested, I request reasonable assistance to refine the request and/or provision of the closest available reporting format in accordance with section 13 of the Official Information Act 1982. Where exact figures are not available, I request the closest available data or reasonable estimates.
I do not consider this request to require substantial collation or research under section 18(f); however, if any part is considered to do so, I request that it be refined rather than refused.

Dear requester,
I refer to your request of 2 April 2026. As consultations necessary to
make a decision on your request are such that a response cannot reasonably
be given within the original time limit, the University has extended the
time limit for your request by 20 working days under section 15A(1)(b) of
the OIA.
The new maximum time limit for the University’s response is 3 June 2026;
we will respond to your request as soon as reasonably practicable.
You have the right to make a complaint to an Ombudsman if you are
dissatisfied with this extension.
