Far North District Council
Kia Ora Requester
Thank you for your official information request to the Far North District
Council (‘Council’) received 2^nd April 2026. Your request is being
considered under the provisions of the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 (“the LGOIMA”).
In looking into your request, Council notes that the request is broad,
covering an extensive range of different types of information, and within
an unlimited time period.
As it currently stands, the request is simply too large to reasonably
process, and it is likely it would need to be refused for administrative
reasons under section 17(f) of the LGOIMA. This is because the information
cannot readily be made available without substantial collation or research
and the resources and time required to process your request would
interfere with Council’s ability to carry out its day-to-day business.
Council has also considered whether section 17A of the LGOIMA might assist
with the request, that is;
· whether further extending the timeframe would allow Council to
process the request; and or
· making an appropriate charge
However, Council has concluded that given the amount of information which
would need to be searched and the resources it would take - use of these
mechanisms would not be realistic.
For Council to be able to process your request – it will need to be
significantly refined and be site specific. We would be happy to work with
you to see if the request can be limited in such a way that it still meets
your needs but does not place an unreasonable administrative burden on
Council.

From: Erica Cooney
Far North District Council
Kia Ora Requester,
Council refers to your official information request received on 2 April
2026 (copy attached), and to its email dated 10 April 2026 below
(inviting you to significantly reduce the size of your request for Council
to be able to reasonably process it).
Given that we have not heard from you about amending your request, Council
has considered the request made on 2 April 2026 under the provisions of
the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (“the
LGOIMA”).
Council has decided to refuse your request for administrative reasons
under section 17(f) of the LGOIMA. This is because the extensive scope of
the request means that the information requested cannot readily be made
available without substantial collation or research. The resources and
time required to process the request would significantly interfere with
Council’s ability to carry out its day-to-day business.
In considering section 17A of the LGOIMA, Council has further concluded
that given the extremely large size of the request - neither extending the
timeframe for responding, nor making an appropriate charge would enable
the request to be granted.
You have the right to complain to the Ombudsman if you are dissatisfied
with this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available
at [1]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or Freephone 0800 802 602.
